Patti Warashina: Conversations in Clay
Posted Nov 01, 2019
August 26 – December 6, 2019
Reception: Friday, October 25 8:30p – 9:30p
鈥淨ueen of Northwest ceramics,鈥 鈥渁rtistic icon,鈥 and 鈥渁cclaimed for a reason鈥 are just some of the deserving epithets attributed to Seattle-based artist Patti Warashina. Featuring work from her spirited Conversations Series (2009- ), this exhibition highlights how Warashina鈥檚 skillful use of irony, humor, and puns in expressive figural vignettes transforms personal experiences of everyday life into timeless commentary about relationships, politics, and simply being human. Through juxtaposition, new work from the artist鈥檚 politically charged Cloud Bank Series (2018- ) amplifies the exhibition鈥檚 themes. 鈥婽his show was inspired by Frank Gonzales’ curatorial work at the Mesa Art Center, Arizona.
