Library Turns 50!

2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Courtright Memorial Library. Many events, programs, and activities are planned through 2022 to celebrate this milestone. In the late 1960s, it was becoming evident that the Centennial Library, attached to the back of Towers Hall, was no longer large enough to serve the growing needs of Otterbein鈥檚 students, staff, and faculty. Under the careful guidance of Head Librarian John Becker, 鈥�50, a state-of-the-art facility was designed. When Nia Themelaras (Theatre and English, 鈥�23) began to explore librarianship as a career, she turned to YouTube videos and blogs. The videos and blogs made one thing clear: She needed experience in order to get her foot in the door. In Spring 2021, the Courtright Memorial Library posted a paid internship for the OhioLINK Luminaries Program, which offers students a unique, paid opportunity in academic libraries not available in traditional internships or part-time campus employment.
